About:
Without their hairdressers, black women are trying to learn how to braid their own hair. The problem is, there is no guidance. There are a lot of “How-to” videos on Youtube yes, but which one to choose? And what products are they using? Is that the best technique? Can this technique work on any hair texture? BGB aims to simplify the way we learn how to braid while making it fun in the process by providing personalized, step-by-step tutorials to keep users confident and engaged.
Our team is interested in creating a digital product for people to learn more how to braid hair while making it fun and encouraging.

Problem/Challenge:
Without easy access to hairdressers due to Covid-19, black women are trying to learn how to braid their own hair. The problem is, there is no guidance. There are a lot of “How-to” videos on Youtube yes, but which one to choose? And what products are they using? Is that the best technique? Can this technique work on any hair texture? BGB aims to simplify the way we learn how to braid while making it fun in the process by providing personalized, step-by-step tutorials to keep users confident and engaged.
Project Goals:
Our team wants to learn about what information and resources are out there for people to learn how to braid hair, including the use of digital tools, and what goals they are trying to achieve using the tools. We want to determine what opportunities and needs might exist for new learning products so that we can use these findings to help us shape the direction we take in developing our product. Our team wants to learn about how learners use digital tools to increase their quality of life. We want to understand the user, who they are, their lifestyle, and if they would be interested in using our app.
Design a simple, intuitive and functional desktop and app interface.
Learn more about the product and discover new ways to create a cleaner, cohesive experience.
Create agility to share and communicate with others in the community.
Research Method:
Our UX researcher conducted a 30-minute in-person or video semi-structured interview to gather in-depth qualitative data.
